Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to questions frequently asked about CASSIO and our online drawing libraries.

What is CASSIO?

CASSIO is the name of our offline product and application drawing library for AutoCAD and contains the same drawings found in our online libraries

The software is available to download free of charge and installs under all recent versions of AutoCAD. In addition to the drawings, the software also contains other useful, non-product drawings together with tools and wizards to help speed up drawing production.

Are the drawings 'to-scale'?

No. As with all the drawings supplied in the CAD Library, the drawings provided in CASSIO are for illustration purposes only. They are not to scale and should not be used for sizing purposes. Although 15mm products are generally 'to-scale', any products added at larger sizes will be 'scaled-up' using a pre-defined scale factor, and will not reflect actual sizes.

Can I use CASSIO as a sizing tool for my plant design?

No. CASSIO is not a scale library.

Which versions of AutoCAD is CASSIO compatible with?

CASSIO can be installed under the following versions of AutoCAD:

  • AutoCAD LT 2000-2007
  • 'Full' AutoCAD 2000-2007

There are no further hardware or software requirements for CASSIO other than those required by AutoCAD itself.

AutoCAD 2008/LT 2008 Users Only

If you have AutoCAD 2008 or AutoCAD LT 2008 you must first download and install the required CASSIO Update Pack. This program installs custom files so that the main CASSIO program can be installed under 2008 versions of AutoCAD - without it, CASSIO cannot be installed under these versions.

Can I use CASSIO with foreign language versions of AutoCAD?

Yes. If you are using a foreign-language version of AutoCAD®, you can install and use the CASSIO in the normal way. The menu descriptions will be in English, but all commands used by the library will automatically be translated by AutoCAD when they are issued.

CASSIO support is free of charge and based in the UK. Therefore support is limited if required for CASSIO installed under versions of AutoCAD other than English.

Can I make use of the online libraries if I do not have AutoCAD?

Yes. All of the drawings on this site are available as CAD files (DWG) and clipart files (WMF) meaning that they can be used in virtually any software package. You simply need to download the file that is compatible with your software.

The CAD files are saved as R12 or R2000 DWG which can be imported by most CAD packages (like TurboCAD) and illustration software (like Adobe Illustrator). The clipart files are saved as Windows Metafile Format files which can be imported by most office software packages (like Microsoft Word or PowerPoint).

What are DWF Viewers?

DWF viewers are small software applications that enable you to preview our CAD drawings interactively online before spending the time downloading them. DWF files are highly compressed (most are only a few kilobytes), but show the same level of detail as the drawing they represent.

We utilise DWF viewers within our online drawing libraries to enable you to zoom in to any area of a drawing you like within your web browser before downloading the CAD file. This facility will be enabled by default when you click on a drawing thumbnail image if you have a DWF Viewer installed on your computer.

We recommend using the free to download Autodesk DWF Viewer, which is also installed with all latest versions of AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT.

What is i-drop technology?

Autodesk i-drop technology is available to you if you have AutoCAD LT 2000 (or higher) or full AutoCAD 2000i (or higher). In fact all of the latest Autodesk CAD software supports i-drop. The technology enables you to drag and drop drawing (DWG) files from our online drawing libraries directly into your AutoCAD window.

It is quick and simple to use because the drawing file does not have to be downloaded and saved onto your computer manually, then inserted into your drawing - the process happens seamlessly.

Should you wish to save any drawing to your computer separately, use the 'Download AutoCAD file' option.

Can I import the drawings into other applications, like Microsoft Office?

Even if you do not have any CAD software you can still make use of all of the drawings on this site. In addition to CAD (DWG) files we also supply clipart (WMF) files of each of our drawings.

The clipart files can be downloaded, copied to the clipboard or even dragged and dropped directly into almost any Windows application. Use the 'Download Clipart file' option or click on the 'Clipart' tab while previewing a drawing for the extended clipart options.

When will updates be made to CASSIO and the online libraries?

Updates will be made to the online libraries as and when new or updated product drawings are available. For instance, on the launch of a new product or when a product's design is updated (and it looks visually different from the superseded version).

Updates to CASSIO (available as downloadable packs) will be issued less frequently. Updates will be made available when a number of new product drawings are available, or a new version of AutoCAD is released.

Any drawings on this site tagged with the New Drawing Icon new drawing icon are yet to be integrated into CASSIO. These drawings are the most up-to-date and while the icon remains are only available within the online libraries. When the CASSIO libraries have been updated the New Drawing Icon new drawing icon will be removed.
