CUSTOMER: OCHSNER ST. MARY'S HOSPITAL

Spirax Sarco, Gaudin Equipment and contractors worked together to provide critical services for the reopening of St. Mary’s Hospital during the COVID-19 Pandemic

St Mary’s Hospital, which is a part of the Ochsner LSU Healthcare System in Shreveport, Louisiana, was permanently closed in 2013. As COVID-19 quickly spread in Louisiana, state mandates were put in place to increase treatment capacity, which required St Mary’s Hospital to reopen. After receiving direct intervention from Louisiana’s governor as well as federal aid, the timeline to reopen accelerated.

The re-opening consisted of a 120,000 square foot renovation for a future capacity of 700 beds. After having been closed for seven years, the primary concern for the hospital was the ability to deliver Domestic Hot Water and Building Heat throughout.

The Ochsner LSU Healthcare System invited Spirax Sarco, along with a local distributor, Gaudin Equipment, and several contractors to provide critical services that would help them reach their objective.

THE SOLUTION

Due to the timeline of this project, before sale, it was necessary to ensure the customers’ needs were clearly understood and over communicated to all individuals involved.

Spirax Sarco used an expertise and solution based approach to enable a three week turnaround from concept to quote, to fabrication and delivery.

Within three weeks, Spirax Sarco provided two Condensate Control Building Heat EasiHeats, three Domestic Hot Water EasiHeats, control valves for pressure reduction, PC4000 w/UFT for drips and process traps, and pressure powered Pivotrol Pumps for condensate return.

THE RESULTS

After just one month of flushing for hot water, working on isolation rooms, helping with generator shutdowns, figuring out reheat systems and, providing quotes and deliveries, the St Mary’s Hospital reopened.

By having Sales Executives embedded within the Ochsner organization, Spirax Sarco was able to help them achieve better product quality, increase productivity, and improve profitability.

On Monday, April 27, 2020, at 6:20 AM, Spirax Sarco, along with Gaudin Equipment and contractors, greeted the first patient of St Mary’s Hospital.

In all of my years doing this, I have never been so proud of one project like this one. It's a project for the books and most likely never to be repeated.
